Shocking Transformation: Corvette Brake Disaster Better than New (On the Cheap!)
Like everything else with the Abomination Corvette, the brake system had a nasty surprise for me when I went to bring it back up to spec. So it called for a total rebuild from the ground up.     The tool being used to torque the underside studs is not not a crowfoot, it's called a torque adapter.

    The engineering is awesome, and if it's your thing go for it, but for my dollar on the street on pump gas even a roots blown old school big ci motor can be built on the cheap with new or used components an make way more power in the useable range, live longer and be cheaper to fix. Pulley swaps and EFI make tuning that power a breeze. Being able to make 700 ft lb at 2500 rpms helps longevity cruising in overdrive. Heck, an N/A 750 hp 572 pump gas street hemi still idles smooth and costs WAY less. 1000 hp is not uncommon on actual street driven N/A hemis. Even GM has that 632 BBC crate motor that makes 1000hp with one 4 bbl! I just went with a blower on my 572 hemi because it's much torquier and easier on components. I can drive in, then swap pulleys, go to C16 race gas, and water-meth injection and its katie bar the door! Shift at 5500 or 7500 just keeps pulling! Then run overdrive at 2k rpm all the way down the interstate. The vacuum from under the blower hat will run the power brakes and heater. If I wear it out I just replace the sleeves in the Keith Black aluminum block. Put a window in it? Weld it! Completely destroy it? not likely, but the blower and fuel system will still be around for the next few decades! You can rebuild it on your kitchen table! The gen 2 hemi is the only engine that is an investment because you can always sell them for more than you have in it. Wedges are cents on the dollar. When this wears out, or gets windowed it's scrap, and its going to be making a heck of alot more revolutions to go a mile! Everything has been sacrificed to meet a rule book. Still very impressive tho!

    Which would I go for? Neither. This is super cool "trick" stuff. But that price tag is super big too and don't even get me started on the complications involved in getting one these exotic screamers into a typical street going car. 950HP is a super 2+HP/ cu inch.....to call that merely impressive would be an understatement. A street friendly build at 700HP is no less cool and I'd love to have one. But.......Call me a "cave man" if you must but I think if I need 700- 950HP NA....... I'm gonna go completely old school with a stroked Big Block Chevy instead. No it won't be nearly so "built proof" strong or high tech yet it'll come in at price tag far lower and bolting it into a car or truck won't present nearly as many challenges to over come. That said though.....I am talking as guy with a budget that wouldn't be unlimited so I'm willing to give up the "WOW FACTOR" pretty quickly to accommodate a "budget". You just know that there are gonna be customers for these builds. The guys as Jay Leno would describe them, "Full Fledged members of the more money than brains club". I gotta admit I'd love to be member of that elite group. Sure would be cool to hear an near 9,000 RPM shift point.

    Good to see how the whole Arden heads work on a flat head block. My first engine was a Ford SB 302 so the flat heads are very strange.

    I closed my restorarion shop in '19 after 40 years of GM restorarion and aluminum oxide and plastic media blasting also the last 10. I can say with absolute authority after blasting hundreds of frame and chassis parts with por15 on them. You can say what you want, but it is total garbage. I peeled more sheets off with my thumbnail than I ever had to blast. After sand blasting, why in the world would you not apply epoxy primer and a urethane satin GM eggshell black?

    This motor would be sweet in a tubbed 70 Chevy nova of course with the correct frame and suspension work. This would be the ultimate pro Street nova.
